What to do and things to see in Nova Scotia; discover the hiking trails, beaches and attractions of the Seaside Adjunct to Kejimkujik National Park, Port Joli, Queens County; and only minutes from the Yarmouth ferry.

Outdoor enthusiasts will not have to wonder what to do at ‘The Dunes'. There are a host of things to see and places to explore. This region of southern Nova Scotia is about an hour drive from the Yarmouth ferry and among the most spectacular coastal areas in Eastern Canada. Miles of pristine Nova Scotia beaches abound. The water is brilliantly clear and abundant with marine life; the coastline dotted with sandy beaches and colourful lighthouses.

The Seaside Adjunct to Kejimkujik National Park is among the major attractions in the region. The formal entrance to the park at Port Joli, Queens County is about a 15 minute drive from the cottage, but with the right directions, footwear and gear, hikers can follow a nearby trail to the heart of the protected, wilderness region. The old trail is only about 200 feet from the cottage back door. What a hiking adventure this could be!

The park is breathtaking! There are miles of groomed hiking trails to explore that wind their way along the rocky coast. The huge beach at Cadden Bay is among the most spectacular white, sandy beaches anywhere! And the harbour seals, shore birds and ragging surf beg to be photographed!

And there’s a lot more! The sandy beach, with its impressive dunes, across the road from the cottage is the perfect launching pad for an afternoon kayaking adventure. Paddlers are commonly observed among the local islands and along the sandy shore. The nearby beaches at White Point and Summerville are popular destinations for surfers, who come as far away as California to experience the thrill and excitement of surfing in Nova Scotia. Scuba divers will enjoy the sunken treasures of the new Marine Park at Port Mouton, Queens County, a short cruise from any one of several nearby launching sites.

There are other outdoor destinations to consider including The Thomas Raddall Park (Port Joli), The Fort Point Lighthouse Park (Liverpool), the new Port Medway Lighthouse Park, (Port Medway) and The Summerville Beach Provincial Park, (Summerville Center).

‘The Dunes’ is just 20 minutes from the shops, restaurants and museums of the historic town of Liverpool, about 30 minutes from the old loyalist town of Shelburne, a little over an hour from the ferry terminal in Yarmouth (bringing vehicles and passengers from Portland and Bar Harbour, Maine) and about two hours from the Halifax International Airport.
